This is a very special installation example that DEXON completed - as the DEXON Device's task is to display underwater camera picture while maintaining oil rigs and pipelines around the world.
Perry & Slingsby, United Kingdom
Perry Slingsby called sometimes Forum Subsee is the leading supplier of Work-Class ROVs, providing innovative solutions for challenging deep-water intervention operations. Perry® products are known worldwide for unrivaled quality and technical excellence with a wealth of experience, delivering products that perform reliably in hostile environments. As a process systems specialist, Perry Slingsby offer a wide range of oil and gas production equipment and services, including customized design, fabrication and engineering.
From the well to inside the refinery gates, they deliver whatever it takes to keep your production online: tanks, separators, desalters and dehydration units. As their customers' projects take them to new regions around the globe, their operations are expanding geographically to help meet the latest challenges.
There are nearly 2000 offshore oil rigs around the world. Offshore oil rigs enable producers to extract and process oil and natural gas through drilled wells. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that the world consumed 96.92 million barrels per day in 2016, with the top 10 consumers accounting for 60 percent of the total consumption. Globally, we currently consume the equivalent of over 11 billion tonnes of oil from fossil fuels every year. Crude oil reserves are vanishing at a rate of more than 4 billion tonnes a year – so if we carry on as we are, our known oil deposits could run out in just over 53 years.
These ROV devices manufactured by Perry Slingsby are used for maintenance of oil rigs and oil pipelines, maintenance of electrical transmission lines, laying below the seabed. Operation and maintenance take place in 24/7 to fulfill global demands. This is a rather harsh environment, because of the vapor of salty sea water and extreme weather conditions, workers also daily fight with power cuts which need to be accounted for without causing any delays.
The deep sea robots and mechanics had been designed and manufactured by Perry Slingsby, as one of the world leaders in ROV manufacturing. Their machines are actively and widely used around the world in the field of deep sea research and maintenance of energy and oil rigs offshore. Over 20 control rooms were equipped with DEXON video wall controllers handling 8 digital inputs, 16 composite video inputs and 4 outputs.
These video controllers are used in supervision and control of the above mentioned remote operation vehicles. Most outstanding service in this application is to display the deep-water camera images in real time for the operators to be able to control the ROV devices' activities in the deep sea.
Control rooms of such under water operation are generally furnished in a standardized mobile location on board that contains all the equipment for the 2x2 video wall, the operating work station in front of the video wall, sensors, data transmission devices, industrial interfaces and electrical supply. The operator sits in such a mobile control room, checking the camera image over the 4 screen video wall supervising the deep sea robots remotely.
This allows the operators to have full control over the robot activities 24/7 without any delays ensuring that nothing hinders the mission. Such installations inspire many others in similar fields for a well-functioning, long-term investments in mission critical applications.
