An impressive installation featuring a curved Barco UniSee videowall, a DEXON DIMAX3232 matrix switcher at the core of the system, and a control room worthy of a television studio. The advanced management of the auditorium’s audio, video, and translation services was made possible by integrated solutions from Exertis, with DEXON’s matrix switcher ensuring seamless, centralized AV signal control.
WHO: TIM, VRM Italia
WHAT: Design and setup of a new auditorium for conferences and various events
WHY: High-level technology installation aligned with the needs of an international company
The installation covers multiple areas: an entrance hall, a reception, a large underground space used for catering or lunches, and at its heart — a modern auditorium complete with a control room and interpreter booths.
Claudio Buzzi (Designer) and Marco Di Menico (Solution Engineer) from VRM Italia led the development.
“When we first visited the site, Centro TIM Oriolo was still under construction,” recalls Buzzi. “It allowed us to assess the situation and define the requirements for the AV systems. We developed a tailor-made project based on the client’s specifications, with advanced audio-video installations covering different areas.”
The Auditorium
Stepping into the auditorium makes an immediate impression. The spacious, well-organized setting is dominated by a striking videowall that instantly captures attention.
“The stage features a curved Barco UniSee videowall,” Buzzi explains. “This enhances immersive viewing. We chose it for its seamless installation, precise alignment, and suitability for large-scale projects.”
Rather than using a traditional speaker table and podium, the stage layout features roundtable seating with armchairs to remove barriers between speakers and audience, fostering more dynamic interaction. A speaker table can be added when needed, with floor boxes installed for quick setup and easy connections.
The room is also equipped with five cameras — three covering the stage and two capturing audience views — used for video recording, streaming, and archiving.
Audio coverage is delivered via a front-facing line-array speaker system combined with ultra-slim, high-power subwoofers for even sound distribution.
Lighting is provided by high-end fixtures equivalent to 750W halogen lamps, powered by custom 91x3.5W 6-color LEDs, producing crisp, vivid projections with balanced whites and sharp focus.
The Control Room: The System’s Core
Overlooking the auditorium through a large glass window, the control room ensures complete oversight and efficient management of the AV infrastructure.
“The control room was equipped to provide optimal control of all devices and maintain a full overview of events in the room,” says Marco Di Menico.
At the heart of the system is the DEXON DIMAX 3232 matrix switcher, acting as the central hub for all signal routing. It handles the input and distribution of all available AV signals and integrates seamlessly with video processors and controllers for videowall management and scenario creation.
This 7U high matrix switcher delivers real-time switching and distribution of multiple AV sources with true seamless switching and zero latency. It supports up to 4K60 4:4:4 resolution on all inputs and outputs, and ensures that every connected display receives the optimal format, resolution, and signal quality. Thanks to its modular I/O configuration and redundant power supply options, it provides a highly reliable solution for demanding AV installations.
The control room also includes:
A professional recording system
A multiview processor for camera feeds
A wireless presentation system for seamless content sharing
An audio mixer for managing live sound
Additionally, two interpreter booths are available, offering advanced conference management, microphone control, and simultaneous translation distribution.
Quality and Competitive Value
“The project at Centro TIM Oriolo in Rome is another showcase installation by our company,” says Marco Marziali, VRM’s Commercial Manager.
“We participated in and won the public tender by offering the best quality-to-price ratio, proving that premium technology can be delivered at highly competitive costs.”
He adds that VRM’s long-standing relationship with TIM has been built on consistently delivering high standards of service:
“Thanks to our decade-long partnership with TIM, whenever we present a competitive offer and win a tender, our client knows VRM will deliver outstanding results.”
The Centro TIM Oriolo project stands as a clear demonstration of how advanced AV environments benefit from reliable, centralized signal management. At the core of this successful installation, the DEXON DIMAX 3232 matrix switcher proved essential in enabling seamless, real-time switching, scaling, and distribution of multiple audio and video sources in installations where performance and reliability are critical.
