What is the CES Expo?

The Consumer Electronics Show is held by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Winchester, Nevada.

Each year, tech enthusiasts and experts gather to present new products, learn about how to apply new technologies, and see amazing innovations in action. You might spot some of the top AV companies there.

There can be over 180,000 attendees at the event, including tech powerhouses like Apple and Mercedes. There are even live shows, with Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa gracing the (digital) stage in 2021.

As is to be expected from a tech convention, a lot of it revolves around the online space. The 2021 event was fully remote due to the pandemic, while in 2022, companies like Intel, TikTok, Google, and Meta switched to virtual-only appearances.

CES Expo

History of CES Expo

The first CES Expo took place in 1967 in New York City, and it was held in June. It began as a spin-off of the Chicago Music Show which, at the time, was the main event for companies exhibiting electronics.

It immediately drew huge crowds, with 17,500 attendees and 100 exhibitors. People love technology, and the chance to see its latest developments was just too good to pass up.

Between 1978 and 1994, the CES took place twice per year, with the Winter event in Las Vegas in January and the Summer event in June in Chicago. Over the years, the popularity of the summer Chicago shows declined, and eventually, it was canceled altogether.

From 1998, after several attempts to tour the summer show around the United States, the organizers switched it to a once-a-year event. Now that it’s more exclusive, the CES Expo remains an exciting event on the Las Vegas calendar and is one of the largest conventions. In fact, it takes 18 days to set it up, run, and take it down.

How Many CES Events Are There Worldwide?

The CES Expo in Las Vegas is the main event for tech enthusiasts, but the CTA plans plenty of other events, too. There are several CES preview events that take place worldwide, providing insight into the latest products and trends before all is revealed at the Las Vegas Conference Center.

CES Tech Trends Paris

In Paris, the CES Tech Trends event takes place each September in partnership with France Digitale. The event is part of #FDDay (France Digitale Day), which is an exclusive convention specifically for start-up founders, investors, C-Level and executives.

This is the perfect event to network with other founders and find out what exciting new ideas are coming to the tech space.

Tech Trends Paris is what kicks off the circuit in the lead-up to the CES Expo in Las Vegas. It’s definitely unmissable if you’re excited about new business.

The next event is September 18 2024. Get tickets here.

CES Unveiled Amsterdam

From Paris to Amsterdam, as the CES Unveiled conference takes place in October. The event happens at Beurs van Berlage, and its goal is to highlight tech innovations in Europe through a robust conference schedule, from virtual network computing to streaming.

Attendees are vast, including top-level government officials, industry leaders, media, and more. In fact, if you want to attend as media, CES has a dedicated media kit for the event. For exhibitors and other attendees, there’s a chance to get a sneak peak into what’s coming at the Las Vegas event.

Plus, this year, there’s an added bonus with the Pitch Battle, held in partnership with the European Commission’s European Innovation Council (EIC). This pitch battle gives start-ups a chance to engage in an on-site competition judged by influential business leaders and investors. This is an incredible chance to take your start-up to the next level, not least because the winner gets a booth space at the CES Expo in Las Vegas.

This year’s event is on October 15 2024. Find out how to become an exhibitor here.
